The joy of this Native American dancer is captured in this depiction of the Shawl Dance. Often the shawl is laced with ribbons which exaggerate the movement noting the dance as FANCY SHAWL Dance. As the artist I chose not to add the many flying ribbons in order to distill the essence of the dance. This is a dance by the women of the Plains tribes seen often in Pow Wow competitions. Her costume and boots are heavily beaded and her braids are wrapped. I hope the viewer can feel the energy, joy, and pride of this young woman as she dances for her tribe.
