"And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature and in favor with God and man." Luke 2:40
This sculpture depicts Jesus as a youth. In the Jewish culture this was the time of the rights of passage from boyhood to manhood. We see Jesus, a lanky, curly-headed youth in the carpenter shop. He is wearing the very significant prayer shawl. His foot is resting on an old rugged log crossed with a bow saw which is symbolic of the cross that lies ahead. From the scroll, he has just read Isaiah 61:1 & 2.
"The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed Me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord."
It is called "Turning Point" because he is turning from his father's work to His heavenly Father's work.
This statue has been a joy for me. Jesus as a teenager is an image that is seldom depicted. I felt a great challenge as well as a calling to combine historical accuracy, spiritual inspiration, and create a sculpture that today's youth can relate to. Every youth has "turning points" in their life where they begin to see the significance of their being.
Suitable for inside or outside installation. Marble base depicted not included.
